Style Of Karate

Hanshi Terry L. Bryan
Hanshi Terry L. Bryan - 1992
The very unique style of traditional martial arts taught at the Family Karate Center is called Shorin Kempo Karate-Jitsu, and was founded by Hanshi (Grand Master) Terry Lee Bryan. Terry Bryan blended together traditional Okinawan and Japanese styles of shotokan and shorin-ryu together with traditional Chinese styles of kung-fu and kempo to create Shorin Kempo Karate-Jitsu. The blending of these two martial arts cultures creates a perfect balance between hard and soft, linear and circular, and defensive and attacking.

Terry Bryan believed that the Chinese fighting arts are among the most sophisticated, efficient and effective in the world. However, he also believed that it takes years to develop those skills to a level of confident self-defense. On the other hand, traditional hard-style karate can be learned and made practically effective in a very short time. Often a student can take material from even his/her very first class and begin applying it for self-defense immediately. Terry Bryan believed that you could teach a student hard style karate in the beginning creating an instant ability to defend yourself while at the same time learn the nuances of the softer Chinese arts which take a longer time to master. When blended to together, they make an effective martial art which practitioners can use immediately but take a lifetime of study to master.

The base system of Shorin Kempo Karate-Jitsu is complimented with Okinawan kobujitsu, Filipino Arnis and Kali, and grappling techniques from jujitsu. Presented in a magnificent positive reinforcement teaching methodology, the style of martial arts taught at the Family Karate Center is perfect for your family!
